New Report: Improving the Production of Disability Statistics in the Arab Countries
ESCWA’s Statistics, Information Society and Technology Cluster announces the release of technical guidance for Arab countries, Regional Guidelines on Improving the Production of Disability Statistics in the Arab Countries.
This is ESCWA’s second regional guidebook and consists of two parts:
The first part provides information on the development of disability concepts, implementation of standards, and the collection of minimum set of indicators to produce disability-inclusive data and improve analysis of harmonized data, illustrated by success stories from the region.
The second part presents a proposal for a stand-alone household-level survey on disability to collect in-depth information on the lives and well-being of persons with disabilities. The questionnaire, which was drawn up with input from national statistical offices and disability councils, seeks to elicit information about the various barriers persons with disabilities encounter, particularly in terms of access to health care, education, and support services, including societal attitudes toward persons with disabilities. The data collected in the questionnaire are critical for strategically implementing corrective measures that can enhance the quality of life of persons with disabilities.
